Talent Mobility Definition
Talent mobility is defined as an employee’s ability to move between internal roles within their organization. Promoting talent mobility is a primary component of good talent management and advancement strategy, which includes recruitment, hiring, training, and talent planning.
Talent mobility strategy - encourage development at every level
When a worker excels in their role, it’s tempting to lock them in as a reliable high-performer for that position for as long as you possibly can.
But the smartest employers are trying to carve out tailored pathways for the career progression of their strongest workers so they’ll stick with their company (and out of their competitors’ reach).
Good employees are excited to take on new challenges and hone their skills; good employers are excited to challenge and encourage them.
If you want to improve workplace productivity and boost worker satisfaction, you need to understand how different skills can be utilized in different roles. Obviously, not every worker will flourish in every role – but great managers are able to listen to the aspirations of their employees and find a way to connect the dots.
Looking for a sure-fire way to understand your workforce’s full capability? Turn to Criteria assessments for a reliable way to uncover your employees’ true potential for success.
Assessments identify skilled workers within your talent mobility program
Criteria provides a range of cognitive aptitude tests, from the traditional Criteria Cognitive Aptitude Test (CCAT), to game-based assessments like Cognify and GAME, to more specialized tests like the Criteria Attention Skills Test (CAST) or the Criteria Mechanical Reasoning Assessment (CMRA).
Additionally, Criteria has assessments that can be used to determine if a person would be a strong fit for other internal roles, including the Employee Personality Profile (EPP), Emotify (emotional intelligence test), and our Workplace Alignment Assessment (WAA).
Our client outcomes speak for themselves
Over the years, we’ve worked with hundreds of organizations to better understand and utilize the talents of their current and future employees and improve their internal mobility programs.
Here are just a few examples of internal mobility best practices:
In order to understand the link between cognitive ability and job performance, internal talent mobility, and career development, a large federal regulatory authority conducted a study with the help of Criteria’s team of I/O psychologists.
Together, they collected the test results of 500+ workers, then compared them with performance ratings and promotion history. They found that employees with above-average cognitive aptitude were 5 times more likely to be promoted. And employees with strong or outstanding manager ratings scored an average of 16% higher on the assessments. Read the full case study here.
A large manufacturing client wanted to improve the performance and retention of their technicians. Because technicians use high-end equipment that requires a finely tuned skillset, significant training is provided. The client had the goal to improve training pass rates and increase employee tenure.
Criteria administered two different assessments to the cohort of technicians: the Criteria Mechanical Reasoning Assessment (CMRA) and the Workplace Productivity Profile (WPP). The results from these tests were remarkable. Technicians who met the CMRA benchmark were 2.3 times more likely to complete all required training modules. Those with higher CMRA scores also stayed with the company 2.8 times longer than those with lower scores. The WPP results showed that employees who received a rating of “recommended” or higher by the assessment were 58% less likely to be terminated than those who received lesser ratings.
